For a long time now YouTube has let anyone sign up for the Partner Program meaning that anyone could create their own videos, upload them and generate revenue for the views and clicks etc. While this was fantastic news for the upcoming creators at the time, this did attract some of the wrong crowd. Google ran into a few issues with users uploading movies without permission and also content from other YouTubers.

That was five years ago when Google changed it, today the rules are changing again and now channels which have 10,000 lifetime views on the entire channel, which should help elevate any dodgy users. But the verification is much more rigorous that just having lots of views, YouTube will also be reviewing amy new users who apply for to become a partner.

“In a few weeks, we’ll also be adding a review process for new creators who apply to be in the YouTube Partner Program. After a creator hits 10k lifetime views on their channel, we’ll review their activity against our policies. If everything looks good, we’ll bring this channel into YPP and begin serving ads against their content. Together these new thresholds will help ensure revenue only flows to creators who are playing by the rules.”

The change was announced today and will be altered in a few weeks, according to YouTube.
