Tesla has long not offered two factor authentication on its online accounts for managing the company’s cars, solar and powerwall installations. Despite the need for an account such as a Tesla account to be pretty secure this feature has never been an option, from the Tesla app you have access to unlock a car, summon and much more.
A few days ago on Twitter, Elon Musk (Tesla CEO) said that 2FA support is “embarrassingly late” and the support will be SMS based or authenticator app based with the latter being the preferred option for security reasons. Musk has also said the integration is in its final validation stage.
There is no time frame for the support, but hopefully it’ll be coming soon.
Sorry, this is embarrassingly late. Two factor authentication via sms or authenticator app is going through final validation right now.
