So far in 2020, electric car registrations have almost doubled when compared to the numbers from 2019, so far this year 86,291 all electric vehicles were registered and last year, 37,850 were registered.

These numbers have come from the the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) and they have also said that while new registrations of EVs has increased, diesel registrations have also decreased by more than 50%.

Diesel sales between January and November in 2019 were 583,488 and this year, 246,389 were registered. A number of manufacturers in 2020 have stopped selling diesel versions of some cars due to low demand.

In the past 12 months, more new electric cars have joined the market, the Honda E, Corsa-e to name a few as well as the VW e-up!, and consumers are more aware of the cost benefits of running electric cars now, compared to a combustion one and this increase in sales of EVs will only continue as time goes on.
