After 27 years, Ford is going to stop producing cars in India, due to an underutilisation of the factories, with 4000 jobs affected by the closure. Back in 1994, Ford was one of the first big car companies to enter the country.

When the news was announced last week, on the 9th September, Ford said that manufacturing in India would stop immediately for cars that are sold in the country. However, manufacturing for cars that get exported will be slowly stopped come the end of 2021, then the engine plants Ford has will stop in 2022.

Ford isn’t pulling out of India completely, the company will continue to import the Mustang and Ranger for sale. Ford is just losing too much money annually to make it viable, with $2 billion of losses over the last decade.
