Mercedes has launched a new entry level version of the SL with a new SL 43. Up until this new model was launched Mercedes had only two versions of the V8 engine, but for the first time the SL is now being offered with a four cylinder engine.
The new SL 43 has an electric turbocharger, according to Mercedes this is a world first for a production car and it comes from the world of F1. The new turbocharger is driven electrically to help get it up to speed before letting the exhaust gases do the rest of the work.
The new turbocharger helps the 2.0-litre four cylinder produce 378bhp and 480Nm of torque. The SL 43 will be able to do 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 171mph.
Inside, the SL 43 has a portrait touchscreen for the infotainment and runs the latest MBUX system. For the driver there is a 12.3-inch screen for the instrument cluster. Some optional extras include rear wheel steering, adaptive dampers, active engine mounts and a limited-slip differential.
Pricing for the SL 43 will be revealed soon, but should be cheaper than the SL 55 which has a V8 and is £147,475.
