BMW is temporarily sending out brand new cars to customers, without any support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The company has stated that this is due to a chip shortage, but it will be fixable later this year via an over the air update.

BMW has been using new chips, but they require some updated software in order to support Apple ‌CarPlay‌ and Android Auto. To this end, BMW and its dealers are advising customers to wait until the over the air update is released, which should be by June. BMW has not specified how many models are affected by this, but we do know that customers in the US, Italy, Spain, UK, and France have been posting online about this issue affecting new cars.
