Last week, Ferrari announced its first SUV, the Purosangue. Despite obvious assumptions, Ferrari has avoided the need for any electrification with this new model, instead using a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 with 715bhp and 528lb ft torque. This is Ferrari’s first four seater, four door car and the company has said it has been built to be “a true sports car.”

Ferrari has built four seater cars before, with many 2+2 cars from the past. Most recently, the Roma was launched but the Purosangue marks the first time Ferrari has made a true four eater, with four doors. Ferrari hasn’t said that the Purosangue is an SUV, even though the dimensions and design make it compete with the Urus from Lamborghini. Instead, the company is calling it a sports car, but in a different segment.

Driving all four wheels is a huge 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 with 715bhp and 528lb ft torque. The engine is essentially a reworked version that can be found in the 812 Superfast. It has been modified especially for the Purosangue to provide more torque at lower RPMs to cope with the weight of the car. There is an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which has been placed at the rear for better weight distribution. This is nearly perfect, at 49:51.

Interestingly, there is no sign of any electrification here. However, Ferrari hasn’t spoken yet about other options for engines, but it is understood that it could use a V6 plug-in hybrid in the future.

Inside the Purosangue, it is very similar to the SF90 Stradale, with a 10.2-inch display with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Ferrari has decided to not bother with its own built in sat-nav, instead relying only on the offerings from Apple and Google. Enrico Galliera, the marketing head for Ferrari said “Whatever nav system we put in our car, it will never be more updated or advanced than one on a phone.”

Prices for the new Ferrari Purosangue are set to be around £390,000, but prices havent been confirmed just yet. Deliveries for the UK are set to start in summer 2023.
