This week, Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has come out and said in a new Instagram post that “WhatsApp is far more private and secure than iMessage.” The claim also goes along with new billboards in London and New York City that advertise that WhatsApp has better security that Apple with iMessage, thanks to end-to-end encryption and support for multiple platforms.

This claim could be believed, if it wasn’t for the beef Meta has with Apple. The most recent issue has been down to the ad-tracking blocking Apple put into place with iOS 15, Meta claimed this would hurt small businesses and cost them more money in advertising. However, this was opt out and consumers had the choice whether they would like to be tracked or not.

“WhatsApp is far more private and secure than iMessage, with end-to-end encryption that works across both iPhones and Android, including group chats. With WhatsApp you can also set all new chats to disappear with the tap of a button. And last year we introduced end-to-end encrypted backups too. All of which iMessage still doesn’t have.”

WhatsApp has a scandal of its own back in January 2021, where a new privacy policy was almost put in place which would allow for more tracking, After backlash online, this was reversed but the bad press wasn’t great and many users moved to Telegram and Signal.
