This week, Alpine has put the all new and hardcore A110 R on sale in the UK. Prices are way above that of the standard A110 sports car and Alpine will even offer a limited “Fernando Alonso Edition” which will be priced at £129,440.

Alpine revealed the A110 R in October this year and is designed to be a more hardcore, stripped out and a car that has been made specifically for the track. The super limited Fernando Alonso edition will have a special unique colour scheme and some bespoke tuning in other areas. The man A110 R drops 34kg from the weight, now just coming in at 1082kg.

To achieve this new lower weight, Alpine has used a lot of carbon fibre parts as well as new specially designed tyres. The A110 R is now even lighter than the A110 S and the 2.0-litre Mazda MX-5. Some noise isolation material has also been removed from the engine bay, the glass cover over the engine is now aluminium.

For the driving experience, the A110 R is 10mm lower than the A110 S. The springs and front anti-roll bar has been stiffened by 10%. Rear anti-roll bar is now stiffer by 25%. Standard tyres are now semii-slick Michelin PS Cup 2 and aim to improve the cornering grip by 15%.

In terms of engine power, Alpine hasn’t made any changes. We have the same 1.8-litre turbocharged engine with 296bhp. 0-60mph is a tad quicker than before, by 0.3 seconds, meaning it can now do it in just 3.9 seconds. Top speed is the same, at 177mph.

The new Alpine A110 R is now on sale in the UK, with prices starting at £89,990.
