Apple has today released new updates for pretty much all of its products, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Watch, iPhone and iPad but we also get a new update for the HomePod and HomePod mini. The software release, 16.2 has limited release notes simply stating it includes “performance and stability improvements” – but this update includes much more than that.
HomePod 16.2 adds support for the new and improved Home app architecture, which Apple says makes sure devices connect and respond faster and more reliably. Once the new Home app architecture is selected, it does drop support for any devices attached to iCloud that are not on iOS 16.2, macOS 13.1 etc and later and it does outline this in the switcher process, from within the Home app.
The new HomePod software update is available now for the original large HomePod and the HomePod mini. HomePod devices are generally set to automatically update, if not visit the Home app to manually update your devices.
