Google has recently been spotted testing blocking ad-blockers on YouTube. Last week, a screenshot popped up on Reddit, saying that “Ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube” and that ads help keep YouTube free for billions of users, worldwide. However, since the post it was confirmed by a YouTube employee that it is just an experiment for now. It wouldn’t be surprising however, if this decision does become a feature pretty soon.

Pretty much all of the internet is kept free by the ads you see. News websites, blogs (and this website) are all free to read and use, thanks to ads. It is surprising to see that YouTube is only now doing something about ad blockers, as they have become more and more popular over the years. In years gone by, YouTube has launched YouTube Premium, which allows ads to be disabled all together on every platform, iOS, Apple TV and other places ad-blockers don’t work.
