Honda e dropped from sale in the EU, UK and Japan

Honda has recently discontinued the iconic Honda e electric hatchback in the UK, Europe and Japan. Since its introduction in 2020 sales haven’t been as impressive as Honda hoped. A few things can be attributed to this, namely the hefty price increase. In 2020, the Honda e was priced at £29,160 (after Govt. grant, which has since been removed). Before being dropped from sale, Honda was asking £37,395 for the little EV. The other thing was the range.

To the vast majority of people, the Honda e is priced at the same level as a primary car, which in London or other cities the car would work very well, as well as local journeys. However, most people only have the budget for one car and it needs to fit a lot of needs. As a second car, the Honda e makes a ton of sense, but at the price it is, it doesn’t make sense.

However, now that the e is a little older the used market is looking really good, with a few up for as little as £15,000 on AutoTrader, but the vast majority being around £16-£17k.

We reached out to Honda UK for a comment:

“We can confirm that Honda e will no longer be available for order in the European region. Honda e spearheaded our strategy to electrify 100% of Honda’s mainstream European line up by 2022. As the first Honda production BEV in the region, it brought many new customers to the brand with its distinctive design, advanced technology and trademark Honda driving dynamics. Honda will continue to intensify its electrification efforts in the European region. This summer we have launched three new SUV models at the heart of the market: the e:Ny1 EV SUV, ZR-V e:HEV full hybrid, and all new CR-V offering both e:PHEV plug-in hybrid and e:HEV full hybrid powertrains.”
