Amazon Video bringing Top Gear back in 2016

Amazon Video bringing Top Gear back in 2016

Amazon have signed a deal with the former Top Gear team earlier this morning to bring the show to Amazon Instant Video in 2016. Earlier this year in March, Jeremy Clarkson was sacked from the BBC due to a fracas with the show’s producer and since then a large amount of speculation has been surrounding whether it will return.

Clarkson said in statement:

“I feel like I’ve climbed out of a biplane and into a spaceship.”

Hammond said:

“Amazon? Oh yes. I have already been there. I got bitten by a bullet ant.”

And May added:

“We have become part of the new age of smart TV. Ironic, isn’t it?”

Following the cancellation of the show, a number of people were speculating that it may return as a Netflix Original Series, but the trio have signed a deal with Amazon. This deal is huge for Amazon, as Prime is the main source of income for the company and membership of Prime is required to use Instant Video. Recording of the show will start later this year and it will be airing in 2016. All three of the presenters will be recording the show and even Andy Wilman will be coming along for the ride.

After Clarkson’s departure, the BBC are in the process of relaunching the show on the BBC with Chris Evans leading the show. Now that the three original presenters are making a comeback, it looks like the BBC might have a hard time keeping up.

Amazon Prime Video EU vice-president Jay Marine said:

“Customers told us they wanted to see the team back on screen, and we are excited to make that happen.”

“We can’t wait to see what Jeremy, Richard, James and the team will create in what is sure to be one of the most globally anticipated shows of 2016.”
