Apple announces new Tap to Pay on iPhone – allowing payments to be made with no extra hardware

Apple has recently announces a new feature for the iPhone, which will allow remote merchants and shops to take credit card payments while on the road, similar to how dedicated hardware from Square and SumUp works. The new ‘Tap to Pay on iPhone’ feature will allow businesses and contractors to take payments for goods and services without the need for additional hardware, customers just tap their card, watch or phone on the other iPhone to pay.

‘Tap to Pay on iPhone’ will launch in the US later this year and will work with an iPhone XS or newer using the built in software on iOS or using third party apps, such as Stripe – who will be the first external payment system to integrate.

At this stage, Apple has not mentioned when or if this will be coming outside of the US. This might be unlikely, looking at how long Apple Pay Cash and the Apple Card have been only available stateside.
