Apple is moving some MacBook and iPad production to Vietnam from China

Apple has asked its contractor Foxconn to move some production of iPads and MacBooks to Vietnam instead of China due to some trade tensions between the US and China lately and it would make sense as Apple already assembles the AirPods in Vietnam.

Foxconn is building assembly lines for Apple’s ‌iPad‌ tablet and MacBook laptop at its plant in Vietnam’s northeastern Bac Giang province, to come online in the first half of 2021, the person said, declining to be identified as the plan was private.

The lines will also take some production from China, the person said, without elaborating how much production would shift.

“The move was requested by Apple,” the person said. “It wants to diversify production following the trade war.”

Apple has also used India as an alternative to China for the past few years, when the original iPhone SE was on sale in 2016, Apple started assembling some models in India to be in line with the government requirements.
