Apple Music already has 11 million members

We are just over a month into Apple Music, the company’s new competitor to Spotify has already had 11 million members sign up. Eddy Cue has been speaking to USA TODAY regarding the service.

“We’re thrilled with the numbers so far.” – Eddy Cue

Eddy Cue has also said that 2 million people have chose the family plan for six people which is $14.99/£14.99. Another plan for $9.99/£9.99 which is for one person.

The service is basically three different services in one – a) a Spotify like service with over 30+ million tracks. b) a social network for music artists called Connect. c) a 24/7 live DJ hosted radio station. Eddy Cue has also commented on the App Store earnings – in July the App Store had $1.7 billion in transactions and now developers have been paid $33 billion in total since 2008.

With the launch of Apple Music you wouldn’t be wrong to think that iTunes sales would take a beating, but out of all music revenue iTunes accounts for two thirds of that. Purchasing music is just going to be less popular as streaming services such as Tidal, Google Play Music and now Apple Music lead the charge. Apple is also planning on completely taking over the streaming music industry, as the company has plans to get 100 million users on board.

100 millón users is a bold ambition, but Apple has money to burn on advertising and in the next few months the company has numerous bill boards for Beats 1 as well as TV, radio and web adverts for Apple Music.

Jimmy Iovine has high hopes for the service – he is also pleased with the adoption of Apple Music.

“What we’re about it’s not just tech and utility, we are all about entertainment, being fluid.” – Iovine

“We think we have hit a nerve,” says Iovine. “This isn’t just about providing access to music, this is about building a community. From the artist-community side, I’m hearing a sigh of relief, that now finally they have tools they can use to access their fans. To Apple’s credit, they move like lightning. You get what you give.”

Apple Music is £9.99/$9.99/€9.99 for one person per month and is £14.99/$14.99/€14.99 for up to six users when using family sharing.
