Alongside the new Mac Pro, Apple also made the new Pro Display XDR available to go along with it. The Pro Display is on the same level as high end reference monitors that cost over $40,000 – according to Apple. It’s a large 32-inch display, at Retina 6K level.

For the screen, Apple offers two options, standard glass and nano-texture glass, the latter which is a matte finish more suitable for harsh lighting environments.

If you’re in a particularly variable lighting environment, there’s an innovative matt option with nano-texture glass. Typical matt displays have a coating added to their surface that scatters light. However, these coatings lower contrast while producing unwanted haze and sparkle. The nano-texture on Pro Display XDR is actually etched into the glass at the nanometre level. The result is a screen with beautiful image quality that maintains contrast while scattering light to reduce glare to the barest minimum.

Standard glass is standard price, at £4,599 and the matte finish is £5,499. With this monitor, as it is used in editing suites, it’s likely the types of company’s purchasing this are upgrading from other VESA monitors or already have stands for it, so Apple is charging £949 for the monitor stand – which is pretty pricey.

The ‘Do I need a stand’ section, doesn’t really help – it just tells you about the stand.

Apple is also offering an optional VESA mount adaptor for any mounts and arms. The adaptor is £189.

Then, we have AppleCare+ – by this stage, if you specced every option for your Pro Display XDR, it is a £6,637 monitor and Apple provides three years of AppleCare+ for £499 which covers “accidental damage coverage.” Which is good to know.
