EE and Vodafone have announced this month that they will both be extending their 4G networks to cover the London Underground, with an initial rollout of six stations to start with, including Holland Park, Notting Hill Gate, Queensway, Archway, Tufnell Park and Kentish Town. Both EE and Vodafone have confirmed that services have now gone live in all of these stations in the middle of last week.

Both companies will be doing extra testing over Christmas and will be aiming to go live in Camden Town, Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus in the new year.

Back in June 2021 a new 20 year deal was signed between Transport for London (TfL) and BAI Communications to build out the new network, which will end up consisting of hundreds and hundreds of miles of fibre optic cable, most of which was already laid in place in a trial process on the Jubilee Line. The 4G network uses the Mobile Network Operators (MNO) to make it available to other providers, including O2, Three and now EE and Vodafone. The new network will be 4G only for now and is already ready for 5G.

EE have said that by the end of 2023, the entire London Underground will be covered by 4G, with 5G being available on the majority of stations. EE will be rolling out coverage on more stations throughout 2023.
