Ford is set to end Fiesta production next year

A new report today as revealed that Ford could be planning on stopping Ford Fiesta production in 2023, due to falling demand as buyers switch to the Vauxhall Corsa and the Ford Puma. The Ford Fiesta was the best selling car in the UK for many years on the trot, but despite a recent facelift, the model hasn’t even made the top 10 best selling cars at all recently.

From 2009 to 2020, the Fiesta was the best selling car in the UK, with 4.8million sales in 46 years. The news came today from a report via The Sun and the iconic hatch could be discontinued and an all electric Puma to sit in its place. To put the numbers into perspective, the Ford Puma came 12th in sales throughout Europe this August, with 9,991 sales. Whereas the Fiesta didn’t even make the top 50, with just 2,735 sales.

Ford hasn’t yet announced anything on the matter, but several sources point towards an announcement, which is due soon from the company. We reached out to Ford who provided this statement:

“We are accelerating our efforts to go all-in on electrification and therefore review our vehicle portfolio in line with our business strategy. We do not comment on speculation and will share more information in the coming months.”

Like all companies selling in the UK and Europe, the acceleration to a future of EVs is imminent. Ford expects to sell 600,000 EVs annually by 2026 and from 2030, the company will only sell EVs in Europe.
