iFixit have been banned from the App Store, following Apple TV teardown

iFixit have been tearing down the latest Apple products, as well as other phones for ages now but the latest one has actually ticked Apple off a bit. The new Apple TV has been teared down by the website and as the device is only available to developers until the final launch later this year sharing any details to the public actually violates the NDA, which strictly states that any publication isn’t allowed for products that haven’t been launched yet. Apparently, iFixit were aware of that anyway.

Apple have removed the iFixit app from the App Store

iFixit have posted a statement on their website which outlines the app being removed and apparently, the website isn’t phased. Following the teardown that iFixit did, Apple emailed them to inform them that they had violated the terms and conditions and the app had been taken off the App Store and the developer account banned.

“Not too long ago, we tore down the Apple TV and Siri Remote. The developer unit we disassembled was sent to us by Apple. Evidently, they didn’t intend for us to take it apart. But we’re a teardown and repair company; teardowns are in our DNA—and nothing makes us happier than figuring out what makes these gadgets tick. We weighed the risks, blithely tossed those risks over our shoulder, and tore down the Apple TV anyway.”

iFixit has also said that the app for iOS wasn’t really being worked on and the mobile website currently does all of the stuff that the app did and more. The new Apple TV is launching in October.
