iPhone 8 and later now support FaceTime HD at 1080p

Up until recently, the only devices that actually supported FaceTime HD was the iPhone 12 line of phones, so the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max but this week, as reported by MacMagazine Apple has seemed to have updated the tech specs for the iPhone 8 and later, now specifying that they all now support FaceTime HD 1080p.

The only difference between the iPhone 12 line and only older devices is that the newer ones support FaceTime HD over 5G and WiFi, whereas the older devices only support it over WiFi. This means that the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone SE 2nd generation, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max all support it too.

From what MacMagazine said, it looks like the comparison site on Apple’s website was updated on the 9th November and the support came with the release of iOS 14.2.
