Last ever British built Vauxhall Astra was manufactured this week in Ellsemere

The very last British built Vauxhall Astra has been produced this week at the factory in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. Vauxhall, like a lot of other car companies is preparing for the future of electric cars so the factory will be home to pure EVs going forward.

Vauxhall starting using the faculty in Ellsemere in 1981 to make the Astra, from then till this week over four million Astra’s have been made there. Before that the factory made the Vauxhall Viva and Chevette, starting in 1962.

Now that Stellantis is focusing on EVs, the factory is to be used to make the Vauxhall Combo-e, Peugeot e-Partner and Citroen e-Berlingo. Not all are destined for the UK, some are going to Europe and this is in effort to halve the CO2 emissions of the factory by 2030 and be carbon neutral by 2038.
