Microsoft is not making Xbox One consoles anymore

Microsoft is struggling to keep up with demand for the new Xbox Series X, even though it has now been on sale for well over a year and as we all know, Sony is in the same situation with the PlayStation 5.

Sony is planning on keeping manufacturing the PlayStation 4 to customers who want a new console can purchase one, even it is not the latest and greatest. However, Microsoft has decided to stop producing any new Xbox One S consoles at the end of 2020 so it could focus on the new Series X and Series S units.

Speaking to The Verge Microsoft said:

“To focus on production of Xbox Series X/S, we stopped production for all Xbox One consoles by the end of 2020.”

Even more than a year on, it is still very hard to get hold of a Series X, due to it being a lot more powerful than the less expensive Series S. At this stage, there seems to be an abundance of Series S consoles in stock in the US and the UK.

For however long this chip shortage lasts, it could be another 12 months or more before it becomes easy to get hold of an Series X.
