New hydrogen plug-in hybrid van from Citroën, Peugeot and Vauxhall is coming next year

New hydrogen plug-in hybrid van from Citroën, Peugeot and Vauxhall is coming next year

Stellantis, the new parent company behind Citroën, Peugeot, Vauxhall, Fiat, Jeep as well as many more companies has announced recently that coming from its Citroën, Peugeot and Vauxhall brands will be a new hydrogen powered van, next year. Sitting on the same platform as the Dispatch, Expert and Vivaro, which themselves all have fully electric versions, the new hydrogen vans will be plug in hybrid models, with the tank sitting under the floor in the back as well as a 10.5kWh battery under the front seats.

Due to the way the drivetrain has been designed, the amount of space the vans will have in the back remains the same as the combustion based models, as is the amount of weight they can carry. Maximum weight is 1100kg and the space in the back is 6100 litres. Range is that of a decent electric car, at 250 miles.

Being a plug-in model, it works similar to a plug-in-hybrid petrol car, the small battery can be charged up in around an hour and provides 30 miles of pure EV range. The on board motor providers 134bhp and the 0-60mph time is a little slow, at 15 seconds.

Stellantis is hopping to haver the van ready for launch in left hand drive markets by the end of the year, with a UK debut shortly afterwards.
