At the Los Angeles Motor Show earlier this week, Kia unveiled the new performance focused Kia EV9 GT. Much like the EV6 GT, this new variant adds buckets of extra power and green accents. However, Kia hasn't just added extra performance, the company has gone down a similar road to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, by adding virtual gear shifts (VGS) and a electronic limited-slip differential (LSD).
Styling
In terms of styling, Kia hasn't changed loads, but it seems to be more subtle, with different bumpers, acid-green brake callipers, green LED inside as well as green stitching on the sears and GT logos dotted around. Also new is a updated three spoke steering wheel with GT button, offering a shortcut to the most performance focused driving mode.
Performance
The new EV9 GT has around 501bhp, thanks t the two electric motors, with 362bhp from the rear unit and 214bhp fro the front. When compared to the previous range topper, the GT-Line, this adds 122bhp and knocks that 0-60mph time down to 4.3 seconds.
Kia has also decided to opt for the virtual gear shifts system, similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. However, Kia has said that the two systems are different, whereas with the 5 N you get fake engine sounds, the EV9 GT adds sounds that replicate gearshifts.
The EV9 has always had a gargantuan battery pack, and the EV9 GT is no different. This one has the same 99.8kWh unit, all sitting on a 800V architecture. Kia hasn't said anything publicly about the range yet, but considering the standard car has 313 miles of range, expect that to be reduced slightly, maybe around 295 miles.
Availability and Price
The Kia EV9 GT will be available in 2025, but the UK specifications and prices are yet to be revealed. The existing EV9 GT-Line S comes in at £76,025 so the GT model could easily be around £80,000 to £85,000 when it goes on sale.
