The Volkswagen ID.5 will start production this year

The Volkswagen ID.5 will start production this year

Volkswagen’s third vehicle in the ID family will be the ID.5 with the first two models, the ID.3 and ID.4 already on sale. The ID.3 is a Golf sized all electric hatchback and the ID.4 is a compact sized all electric SUV. The upcoming ID.5 is going to be a coupe version of the ID.4, but currently it doesn’t look like it’ll go on sale across the pond, in the US.

So far the ID.4 is the only car in the family that is on sale in the United States, with the ID.3 being only available here in the UK and Europe at the moment. Volkswagen has confirmed that there are no current plans to bring the ID.5 to the US.

The news came via Twitter last week, translated it reads:

“It’s official: on the #VWID3 & #VWID4 follows the #VWID5 ! As #VW-Brand boss Ralf Brandstätter in conversation with @WN_Wolfsburg
announced, the coupé SUV will be built in #Zwickau. Market launch: 2nd half of 2021! The first pilot series are already running …#emobility.”

So far, Volkswagen has started the early phase of production for the ID.5 SUV coupe and will start full scale production later this year. The company has some other plans for the ID lineup, with early concepts consisting of a much larger version of the ID.4, named ID Roomzz. Also coming is a dune buggy with the ID Buggy as well as the iconic Transporter and camper van being turned into full EV, with the ID Buzz.
