It has been annouced that the Samsung’s Galaxy S7 will be released this Spring according to the Wallstreet Journal. There is likely to be a Mobile World Congress in February — though it’s quite possible for the company to hold their own dedicated event to give the phone higher outburst.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 will be available in two different sizes i.e. a flat 5.2 Inch display and the second (the ‘Edge’ 5.5 Inch curved variant according to the The Wall Street Journal . The launching of the S7 with two different screen sizes is a major change in strategy for Samsung, who released this year’s S6 in flat  and curved screen variants with the same 5.1-inch screen size. The S6 Edge+ has a larger screen too, but was released months after the original S6 and S6 Edge was released. This can be compared with Apple’s tactics with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, who released two variants: 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens respectively.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S7 phones (both the regular and the curved-screen variants) will have lots of enhaunced features. According to a report at VentureBeat It will include expandable storage via microSD and IP67 water resistance . The S7 phones has been reported to also have larger batteries. In addition there will be a pressure-sensitive screen much like Apple’s 3D Touch feature. With the changes to expandable storage, water resistance, and a bigger (though not replaceable) battery this is a return to Samsung’s traditional form.

VentureBeat have also reported that Samsung is changing up the camera on the S7, dropping the megapixel count down to 12 (while presumably improving low-light performance). This will be flush with the rest of the phone, eliminating the camera bump. Both variants will likely use USB Type-C for their connector.

ET News (South Korea) has reported that Samsung have planned the initial production run of approximately 5 million units for the new Galaxy (split between 3.3 million for the S7 and 1.6 million for the S7 Edge) with mass-production rumored to start in February. A previous report from The Wall Street Journal suggested a March release date for the S7, as well as claiming that the phone will look “largely similar” to the S6.
