Nest launches new outdoor security camera

Over the last few months the whole company structure at Nest has had mix up and as the CEO and founder Tony Fadell stepped down not so long ago there is quite a few people concerned as to what the Nest is going to do next with its product line up. Earlier today we sort of know, it isn’t anything new or different to what the company currently offers but it is a nice addition to the Nest product line up.

The new Nest Outdoor Cam, which like all of the company’s products is extremely well designed and is housed in the usual attractive, minimalist casing. The outdoor cam uses WiFi to communicate with your existing network and is wired into the mains, which Nest says is unlike most outdoor security cameras which use batteries – thus allowing constant recording. It can capture full HD 1080p video and sports a wide angle lens of 130 degrees.

Technically, this new camera isn’t any different from the existing Nest Cam for indoor use, it’s now waterproof and has a all enclosed design which is white. The mechanism for attaching the camera to wall is quite neat, it uses a magnetic disc which sticks to the wall and the Nest Cam attaches to the disc

The Nest Cam outdoor will be availble late this year in Autumn for $199, same as the current Nest Cam for indoor use.
