Apple has made some improvements to AirPods and audio with its new software releases

Across all of its platforms, Apple has made improvements to the way AirPods work, and added new feature for AirPods Pro.

In iOS 14, Apple will now let you know with a notification when your AirPods are getting low on battery. Also, at the moment when you want to move between devices, you have to initiate the switching over and now with macOS 11.0, iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, AirPods will automatically switch over depending on what is happening on that device.

“If you finish a phone call on your iPhone and pick up your iPad to watch a movie, AirPods automatically switch over”

Apple has also made its audio sharing feature from iOS and iPadOS available on tvOS, so two people can listen to the movie at the same time through headphones.

AirPods Pro will have access to spatial audio, for a “theatre like” experience. Apple has said this kind of audio requires the source and the person listening to stay still, to combat the moment that would happen, both the device you are watching the movie on and the AirPods compare data from their respective gyroscopes and accelerometers to keep the audio sounding the same.

*With AirPods Pro, you can enjoy a theater‑like experience wherever you are. Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking puts surround sound channels in exactly the right place, even as you turn your head or move your device.
