Apple is now the world’s largest smartphone vendor

In the fourth quarter of 2020, Apple has become the worlds larger vendor of smartphones, overtaking previous top spot holder, Samsung. According to data from Gartner Apple hasn’t been at this status, since 2016. Apple sold a lot of new iPhones in the last quarter of 2020, with 80 million sold an increase of 20 million when compared to that same quarter in 2019.

This extra demand has come from the upgraded camera and the hype around the support for 5G. Throughout 2020, the overall smartphone market saw a decline, whole PC sales saw an increase. The smartphone market overall saw a 12.5% decrease, but Apple and Xiaomi were the only to companies to not see an affect from this.
