Eve updates its Eve Weather sensor with Matter support

Eve has updated its Eve Weather HomeKit sensor to now support the Matter standard. The smart home products from Eve have long only supported HomeKit, due to the private way that Eve wanted to make its products, HomeKit was the only way to keep everything local and not use external servers. However, with the introduction of Matter, customers without Apple devices can now start to take advantage of the devices on offer from Eve. Eve has been updating a lot of its devices to support Matter and Thread, such as its plugs, sensors, lights and more.

The latest device to get the Matter treatment is the Eve Weather. This device has long supported Thread and has now been updated to work with Matter, which means it can work with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, HomeKit and Samsung SmartThings. There is an Eve app for iOS and iPadOS, but the Android version has not yet been released.

The Eve Weather can be placed inside or outside, but is primarily designed for outdoor use. It can display the current temperature, humidity, air pressure and weather conditions. It is also IPX4 water resistant and uses a coin battery for power.

Matter allows smart home devices to work with more than one smart home platform at a time and the standard was co-developed by Amazon, Apple, Google, Samsung, Eve and many more to allow this cross communication of data with multiple speakers, voice assistants and smartphones.

The new updated Eve Weather is on sale now for £71.16 from Amazon, but the existing version can be updated via a software update to support Matter, but an iPhone or iPad is required to do this. The HomeKit only version is still available from Amazon for £51.94.
