Apple releases tvOS 14 for Apple TV

Apple releases tvOS 14 for Apple TV

Yesterday, Apple released tvOS 14 for Apple TV users, it now has system wide Picture in Picture mode, previously only some apps could support it, now you can go anywhere on the Apple TV and continue watching a movie or TV show. HomeKit is now more of a part of Apple TV, the Home icon is now in the Control centre and can be used to control your favourite accessories as well as viewing HomeKit cameras.

Also new is that Apple Arcade games now works for multiple users, 4K works on YouTube as well as much more.

Can my Apple TV run tvOS 14?

tvOS 14 runs on the new generation of Apple TV, the fourth generation was introduced in 2015 so if your model has the remote like the one at the header image, then it can run tvOS 14. If it has the smaller metal one, then it can’t – that is a much older model of Apple TV.

These models can run tvOS 14:

  • Apple TV HD (4th gen)
  • Apple TV 4K (5th gen)

You can update by going to the Settings > General > Software Update
