Audi will drop the A1 and Q2 from sale next year, in favour of a new EV

Audi is planning on removing the A1 hatchback and Q2 crossover in 2026, to make way for a new entry level electric car. Audi CEO, Gernot Döllner spoke to Autocar in the last few weeks and has said that there will be "definitely will be no successor for the A1."

The new EV will sit below the Q4 E-tron in the product lineup and will be the smallest car that Audi is planning on making. Döllner hasn't revealed any technical information about the new EV, as it is too early at this stage, but what is apparent is that it''ll sit on the current MEB platform, which underpins all of the EVs from the VW Group, including Skoda, Volkswagen and Cupra.

The group is due to launch the new SSP EV platform in 2028 and it'll use Rivian based software and is going to underpin the next electric Golf.

Regarding the name, it is possible that the A2 badge could be brought back from the dead, however this remains to be seen.
