BYD Seal 06 EV launched in China for the equivalent of £11k

BYD Seal 06 EV

In China, BYD has just launched the new Seal 06 EV, which is an electric version of the Seal 06 DM-i hybrid that was launched in May 2024. The main highlight of this new car is the price point, as it starts at 109,800 yuan, which works out to be £11,291 when converted.

Like pretty much all of BYD's electric cars, the Seal 06 sits on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo platform and features its blade battery packs with a choice of two sizes with either 46.08 kWh or 56.6kWh. The smaller of the two has a range of 470 km (292 miles) of CLTC range and the larger has a range of 545 km (338 miles), again on the CLTC cycle.

In terms of dimensions, the Sea 06 EV has a length of 4720mm, a width of 1880mm and a height of 1495mm which makes it pretty much the same size as the MG5 estate car. It is however slightly larger than the PHEV version of the Seal 06.

Inside it has a large rotating 15.6-inch infotainment screen and a screen for the driver. There is also two wireless charging pads for smartphones and two cup holders. Boot space is 423 litres and the Seal 06 EV also features a 65-litre frunk.

The Seal 06 EV is not expected to launch in the UK or Europe at this stage. Also, if it did, it would cost significantly more than the £11,291 asking price in China.
