Barclays will support Apple Pay in the UK by April

Barclays will support Apple Pay in the UK by April

Back in July last year when Apple Pay made it over to the UK initially most of the major UK banks and credit unions signed up for the service apart from Barclays, as of writing a total of 15 banks or credit card companies in the UK now support Apple Pay, including Lloyds Bank, M&S Bank, TSB and Halifax. In July, Barclays initially stated that they wont be accepting Apple Pay and have something else they were working on, this was true having since relaunched bPay and a NFC based payment service on Android. But later last year the bank finally annoyed that they would be accepting Apple Pay in ‘early 2016.”

So in a few months, in April Barclays customers will be able to add their debit cards to iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and Apple Watch later this year. The news came from a member of staff from Barclays where a customer emailed in.

“We will launch Apple Pay, as committed, within the next 60 to 75 days”

In the UK we currently have the following banks supporting Apple Pay;

  • Lloyds Bank
  • MBNA
  • Nationwide
  • NatWest
  • Royal Bank of Scotland
  • Santander
  • Tesco Bank
  • TSB
  • Ulster Bank

Also, only a few stores and retailers in the UK actually offer the service, Costa Coffee, M&S and Waitrose to name a few.
