Beats 1 and Apple Music launching later today

Beats 1 and Apple Music launching later today

It wasn’t long ago at WWDC when Apple unveiled its new music streaming service and 24/7 radio station, Beats 1. Well the day has come and we are now hours away from having access to the latest creation from Cupertino. Apple Music has come from, indirectly Beats Music, the service Dr. Dre and Iovine created before Apple acquired the company last year and it’s obvious that Apple Music has a lot of the technology from that service.

In brief….

What is it? – Apple’s brand new music streaming service, named Apple Music

When is it launching? – Later today at 4PM in the UK and 8AM PST

What does it do? – Very similar to Spotify, it can stream songs from a 30m+ library to your device

How much does it cost? – I will cost £9.99/$9.99 per user and £14.99/$14.99 for a family of six.

How will I get Apple Music?

Apple Music is launching later today (June 30) to 100 counties around the globe. It requires iOS 8.4 which will be available at 8AM PST/ 4PM BST. It will be compatible with iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Mac, PC and Android, although the Android app will be available this autumn.

To update your software go to Settings > General > Software Update – if it isn’t there, don’t panic it usually takes a few moments for Apple’s servers to push out the updates.

How much is Apple Music, and what does it include?

Apple Music will cost £9.99/$9.99 per month for one user, like Spotify – although there isn’t a free plan but Apple has a generous three month free trial to try out everything. To help make subscribe easier for families, Apple has a family plan for up to six people which is £14.99/$14.99 per month, but requires Family Sharing,

Apple Music includes access to over 30 million songs to stream as well as your own local iTunes Libarary, which is nice to have side by side, Beats1 the worldwide radio statin which runs 24/7 and is hosted by former BBC Radio 1 DJ, Zane Lowe.

Also, ‘1989’ by Taylor Swift will also be on the service – something that Spotigy doesn’t have.
