BYD announces new Seal 06 GT hot hatch

BYD has officially revealed the Seal 06 GT at the Chengdu auto show, an electric hot hatchback which is setting its eyes on the Volkswagen ID.3 GTX and MG4 XPower.

The new car is essentially the same as the Ocean-M concept that was shown at the Beijing Auto Show back in April 2024. This final version looks pretty similar to what was shown off.

The new Seal 06 GT is built on the e-Platform 3.0 Eco platform that BYD has been using lately, which has higher performing electric motors, improvements to charging speeds and also, an 800V architecture. Like all other BYD EVs, it uses its famous BYD Blade battery, which is LFP.

BYD will also have various versions of the Seal 06 GT, with the entry level model being rear wheel drive, with either 215bhp or 221bhp. At the top of the range will be the dual motor version, with 415bhp.

BYD has not revealed any word on pricing for the Seal 06 GT yet and no indication if or when it will come to the UK market.
