BYD Dolphin facelift leaked online, here's what is coming

It seems like the BYD Dolphin was only just launched, however while that might be the case in the UK - in BYD's home country of China, the popular little EV hatchback has been on sale since 2021, so in the car world, it is due for a mid-cycle refresh.

Leaked this week by the Ministry of Industry and Information Tech (MIIIT), the images show off a refined refresh to the Dolphin, with new headlights, a more modern design and most importantly, the “Build Your Dreams” badge has been removed and it now just says "BYD". This was a common complaint from customers and potential buyers of the current Dolphin and it is good to see BYD has listened to feedback.

Updated BYD Dolphin rear

BYD sell the Dolphin in the UK, China, Europe, Brazil and Thailand. In November 2024, BYD sold 21,700 units of the car, with 176,560 shifted in total this year.

BYD has made the updated car slightly larger than before, now at 4,280 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, and 1,570 mm tall. This means the car is 155mm longer than the current model. BYD will still be using its highly regarded, and reliable Blade LFP battery packs, but any information regarding larger capacities is not yet known. BYD will also be adding new driver assistance features to the Dolphin, with radar and cameras covering the front, rear and side of the vehicle.

Any information regarding specifications and prices will likely be revealed in due course. For reference the current Dolphin in the UK starts at £26,195 for Active and rises up to £31,695 for the Design.
