This week, BYD launched its smallest EV in the UK, named the Dolphin Surf. This little car is slightly longer than the Honda e and slightly shorter than the Fiat Grande Panda. It has a length of just 3,990mm, width of 1,720mm and a height of 1,590mm. One of the most used comparisons is the name, as this car is known as the BYD Seagull in China and in other markets, it's called the BYD Dolphin Mini.

The car is changed up a bit for the UK and European market, with a slightly different front end design, deeper boot and improved safety technology.
The big news is the pricing for the UK, with the entry level Active model coming in at just £18,650. This gets you a 30kWh LFP blade battery, 65kW (80bhp) of motor power and a 0-62mph time of 11.1 seconds. Range is rated at 137 miles WLTP can it can charge at up to 65kW DC and up to 11kW AC.

For £21,950 you get the Boost which adds the larger 43.2kWh LFP battery, 16-inch alloy wheels, rain sensing wipers and electrc front seats. The motor is the same as the Active, but the 0-62mph time drops to 12.1 seconds due to the larger battery. Range is 200 miles WLTP and it can charge at 85kW DC and 11kW AC.
At the top of the lineup is the Comfort, which costs £23,950 and adds heated front seats, a 360-degree camera system, rear window privacy glass and a wireless phone charger. This version has the same 43.2kWh battery as the Boost but features a beefier 115kW (154bhp). This means 0-62mph takes 9.1 seconds. Range is 193 miles WLTP and it can charge at 85kW DC and 11kW AC.

All versions of the BYD Dolphin Surf are well equipped, with a rotating 10.1-inch infotainment screen, rear camera, adaptive cruise control, Apple CarKey support, six airbags and much more.
