Proton launches its first EV, the e.MAS 7

Proton, the budget focused car company from Maylasia has recently launched the brand new e.MAS 7, which is the company's first electric car. Proton is owned these days by Geely, so this new car is essentially a rebranded Geely Galaxy E5 and is sitting on a shared platform.

Both cars sit on the same Geely Electric Architecture (GEA) and on paper, it has some pretty up to date specs. It comes in two battery sizes, either 49.5kWh or 60.2kWh, offering up to 214 miles WLTP and 254 miles respectively.

The top spec Premium trim level is even capable of an impressive 200kW DC charging speed, meaning 30-80% in just 30 minutes

Standard equipment on the e.MAS 7 include 18-inch or 19-inch alloys, LED lights, panaaromic sunroof, speakers in the headrests and a large 15.40-inch touchscreen.

Proton havent done anything to make the e.MAS 7 look different to the Geely version. The only thing the company seems to have done is swap put the badge on the bonnet.

Proton stopped selling cars in the UK in 2014 and has no plans to sell any cars here again, instead focusing on other market. However,  it is part of the wider Geely group, meaning other brands from it are available in the UK, such as Polestar, Lotus, Volvo and Smart.
