BYD has ended Song Plus (Seal U DM-i) sales in China, still sold via export

BYD launched the Song Plus in China back in 2020 and it became one of the best selling cars the company has made to date, with over 400,000 units sold in 2025. Globally, where it is sold under a few different name plates, BYD has sold 1.5 million units since its introduction.

The Song Plus is sold as the Sealion 6 DM-i in Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines and Thailand. Elsewhere in Europe, it is known as the Seal U DM-i. However, in China - BYD has offered the car as a plug-in-hybrid and an EV version, but in the UK and Ireland it is only a PHEV.

In August 2025, BYD UK revealed that the Seal U DM-i had reached 10,000 sales in just ten months.

Domestically in China, BYD will be replacing the Song Plus with the new Sealion 06, a new model launched in July 2025 with refreshed design. It is also offered as both a plug-in-hybrid and EV.
