Due to demand, Ford is doubling F-150 Lightning production

Ford has announced today that is doubling production of its latest EV, the Ford F-150 Lightning. It has recently stopped taking new reservations of the electric pickup due to increased demand and the company has said it is “completely oversubscribed.”

Production will be increased to 150,000 vehicles per year and the pre-orders for the F-150 Lightning have been capped at 200,000 for now. To help with the demand, Ford has drafted in some other employees from different areas of the business to help with production, with extra help coming from manufacturing, purchasing, strategy, product development, and capacity planning to see if there can be anything done to boost production.

For the company’s other EV, the Mustang Mach-E – Ford has announced that production will be tripled, to help it reach 200,000 per year by 2023.

The Ford F-150 Lightning will go on sale this spring in the US, with prices starting at $39,974.
