eBay UK is removing selling fees, except from vehicle listings

This week, eBay UK has made the bold move of removing all of the selling fees for private sellers on the platform. Earlier this year, eBay already removed all selling fees for fashion items, as competition from other market places, such as Vinted have been heating up. Any sellers looking to sell anything on eBay, apart from cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles will not have any operating or final value fees.

“eBay is constantly improving the marketplace experience in order to deliver on what our customers want. Removing selling fees across categories is designed to give buyers access to greater breadth and depth of inventory, while creating a simplified and streamlined experience for sellers.”

Kirsty Keoghan, GM of eBay UK

However, while sellers will no longer pay any fees, much like on Vinted, the charge is now passed on to the customer. This won't be in place from today, but will take effect early in 2025. However, the amount charged to the customer is yet to be determined.

Last year, eBay in Germany removed all fees for sellers and this lead to a double in the amount of new sellers on the platform. When eBay UK removed the fees for fashion items only back in April, the comply experienced a double-digit increase in listings for jeans, shirts, and dresses and curruclaly, playing a part agains wastage and keeping them out of landfill.
