GWM announces new Poer 300 diesel pickup truck

GWM Poer 300

GWM used to offer pickups in the UK, with the Steed back in 2012 but sales stopped a few years later. It wasn't until 2022 when the Chinese car company reentered the UK market with the Ora Funky Cat (now known as the Ora 03) and has subsequently launched the Haval Jolion Pro.

GWM, like a lot of Chinese car companies has a wide variety of sub-brands, many of which have or are due to launch in the UK. One of those brands is Poer (pronounced Power) and when the new Poer 300 pick-up truck goes on sale in the UK this September, it'll actually be one of the cheapest on sale.

Priced at £31,495 (excluding VAT), a towing capacity of 3.5-tonnes and a 1-tonne payload it does look pretty appealing. That price makes it cheaper than the Volkswagen Amarok and Maxus T60 Max. In fact, the pricing makes it almost more expensive than the entry level Ford Ranger, which is a single cab with a basic standard equipment.

Disappointingly, the Poer 300 isn't an EV as this market in the UK is crucially underserved. However, it is instead diesel power with a 2.4-litre four cylinder and 181bhp. GWM has said though that it does achieve 32.7mpg.

Standard equipment includes a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, 7-inch drivers display, keyless entry and 18-inch alloys. Higher trim levels add heated and ventilated seats, ambient lighting, 360-degree camera system and sunroof.

Like the Haval Jolion Pro, which was launched earlier this year in the UK, the Poer 300 has already been on sale in Australia, however named as the Cannon Ute.
