It is pretty much common knowledge at this stage that Elon Musk now owns Twitter and he become the CEO of the company earlier this week too. He has suggested a few debatable changes so far, such as abolishing the current verification process and instead bundling it within Twitter Blue and then charging $8 for the privilege. However, one suggestion seemed to have gone down much easier, such as bringing back Vine.

On Sunday, Elon tweeted out asking people if they would want Twitter to bring back Vine. Out of the four million people who responded, 69.5% of them said yes.

Vine was acquired back in 2012 by Twitter and was a very popular short form video app. It was only possible to share six second long clips, however, in 2016 Twitter decided to shut down the app, with much outcry from users and creators. Many classic memes were created on the platform and some of the most popular creators born from the app have since found a space on YouTube and most likely, TikTok too.

According to Axios, Twitter engineers have been asked to look at the code base for Vine, which hasn’t been touched since 2016. A source who spoke to Axios said it “needs a lot of work.”
