Ford announces name of its all electric F-150 pickup

Ford announces name of its all electric F-150 pickup

This week, Ford finally announced plans for its upcoming electric pickup truck, as well as the name. Ford is reusing the F-150 Lightning badge, which was used on SVT trucks from the 90s. Lightning is a good name for an electric truck from Ford and the new truck will be unveiled later this month on the 19th May.

Making the F-150 electric is a major step for Ford, the other big US car makers are yet to announce their own, the only one that exists is the one from Hummer, which is more SUV than pickup. The other ones are the Rivian, which has been in devolvement for a while now and is due to launch in 2022 and the Cybertruck from Tesla. Ford marks the first traditional car company in the US to have an electric pickup in the works.

And more notably, the F-150 is the best selling vehicle in the US and has been for the last forty years. Ford will be showing off the new truck on 19th May from its HQ in Dearborn, Michigan and the whole event will be live streamed. However, Ford has said that the F-150 Lightning will go on sale in 2022.

Interestingly, Ford has actuality invested $500 million in to Rivian, which is seemingly a rival. However, Rivian will help Lincoln produce a pure EV.
