Google has rebranded, following company rearrange

Google has a brand new logo and it’s the biggest change for the logo since 1999 for the search company and in my opioion, it actually looks good. This change comes after Larry Page and Sergey Brin have unveiled Alphabet which is the new holding company for Google as well as the other projects. The biggest change is the new font, making a change from a variation on the Catull font to an entirely new font which is designed by Google called Product Sans and is sort of like Roboto, the font used on Android and various other Google products.

Google also made a gif for the new redesign:

“We think we’ve taken the best of Google (simple, uncluttered, colorful, friendly), and recast it not just for the Google of today, but for the Google of the future.” – from Google’s blog post.

Google have also redesigned the favicon icon from the familiar small blue ‘g’ to a colourful ‘G’. Overall the new logo is friendly and soft with nice colours which are more vivid than before.

Google describe the new font:

In tandem with developing the logotype, we created a custom, geometric sans-serif typeface to complement the logo in product lockups and supporting identity materials. We call it Product Sans.

The typeface design takes cues from that same schoolbook letter-printing style, but adopts the neutral consistency we’ve all come to expect from a geometric sans serif. This allows us to maintain an appropriate level of distinction between the Google logotype and the product name.

The character set is complete with numerals, punctuation, accent and alternate characters, fractions, symbols, and supports extended Latin, Greek, and Cyrillic.

The new logo is already live on the homepage and various or the services and page footers.
