iOS 12 will bring third party navigation apps to CarPlay

iOS 12 will bring third party navigation apps to CarPlay

With iOS 12, which is coming out later this year – CarPlay is gaining support for third party navigation apps. In the slide fro the keynote, Google Maps, Waze as well as a Chinese app were featured.

For Apple, this is a good move – since Apple Maps was launched with iOS 6, in 2012 it hasn’t been the most popular app that Apple bundles with iOS and while every year Apple is always improving the mapping data and the navigation information, some people just like to use their map app of choice.
