The upcoming Jeep Avenger was originally pitched as an EV, it even won quite a few awards earlier this year. However, the company has revealed that in the UK at least, the car will be sold as a petrol as well in order to meet the needs of customers. Originally, the car was going to be an electric vehicle only, but Jeep has said that it will be marketed and pushed as an electric vehicle first.

Petrol Avenger models will also be sold in Spain and Italy, but later this year some of them will be made available in the UK. The engine will be a turbocharged three-cylinder 1.2-litre PureTech engine, as seen in the Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 308 and Citroën C3 Aircross, to name a few. Prices for the petrol car are not yet known, but the EV is on sale now from £35,700.

The EV Avenger uses a 54kWh battery with 154bhp and 192lb ft of torque. 0-62mph is handled in around 9.0sec and a range of 254 miles.
