Land Rover reveals UK prices for the new Defender

Land Rover reveals UK prices for the new Defender

Land Rover pulled the iconic original Defender from sale back in 2016 for a variety of reasons, mostly for safety and emissions. During that time, the company has teased few concepts and then in September last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Land Rover unveiled the brand new Defender and today, the pricing for the entry level versions have been announced.

The entry-level Defender 90 version will start at £40,290 and the longer 110 will start at £45,240.

The Defender was pulled from the US market back in the 90s, due to emissions regulations so for the new version, Land Rover has made an effort to make sure the new car will be on sale there, as well as China.

What engines can you get on the new Defender?

Land Rover hasn’t gone full electric yet, but it is offering some new hybrid options later this year. From launch, it’ll be available with the choice of a four or six cylinder engine, in petrol or diesel form.

The petrol four cylinder, called the P300 will have 296bhp and will propel the Defender from 0-60 in 8.1 seconds. The larger six cylinder petrol engine will be called the P400, it has 396bhp and does 0-60 in 6.4 seconds, which is pretty quick for a large off roader. The P400 also has some mild hybrid tech, which helps boost the acceleration.

What trim levels are on offer?

The new Defender will come in Defender, S, SE, HSE, First Edition and X versions with a massive array of options, spec packs and accessories. We could list everything on here, but its more interesting to go and configure a Defender for yourself on the Land Rover website.

A few highlights are, a roof tent, waterproof awnings, like a camper van and a shower.

When will it go on sale?

Land Rover has said the new Defender will go on sale today, with deliveries taking place this summer. Later this year a commercial version will be available with a price of £35,000.
